Volkswagen ID.3 Facelift Coming in 2023 with GTX Hot Hatch

Although it will be equipped with AWD, it won’t have the same power as the original concept.

Volkswagen revealed the ID.X concept hot hatch last year, which was an electric version of the Golf R. The Wolfsburg peeps announced that a production model would be available at some point in the future, but they didn’t give a time frame. We now know when the ID.3 GTX will be available for purchase.

Martin Hube, a spokesperson for VW Product Lines, explained that the GTX will be built on the ID.5 SUV. The hatchback was expected to arrive in 2022. However, the mid-cycle update will be available for the compact EV in 2023. It will join the ID.4 GTX, ID.5 GTX and other performance-oriented electric models in VW’s new lineup.

The new ID.3 GTX will be a performance SUV with all-wheel drive and a front-mounted electric engine. The ID.X concept was powerful with 329 horsepower, but VW has already confirmed that the next production car won’t be as powerful. The ID.5 GTX takes 6.2 seconds to reach 62 mph (100 km/h). However, the ID.3 GTX will be lighter and should sprint in a fraction of six seconds.

Many will recall VW teased an ID.3 convertible but it has not received the stamp of approval. Given the drop in cabrios’ demand over recent decades, it is easy to understand why. The design sketch that was published last year has evolved into a drivable concept vehicle.

The TRoc Convertible is the only model with a fold-down roof from the VW core brand. This bizarre crossover-cabrio hybrid is in the same vein of the defunct Range Rover Evoque Convertible.
