This is Volkswagen’s four door coupe, which was spotted in hot weather in the USA ahead of its debut at Geneva Motor Show in March.
Our spy photographers have spotted Volkswagen’s new, stylish 4-door coupe. This follows our earlier spy photos of this vehicle two months ago. Four-door coupes have been a rage since the introduction of Mercedes-Benz CLS. They allow manufacturers to move upmarket, while still maintaining their sports car spirit. This is Volkswagen’s latest effort, which was spotted in hot weather testing in the USA – just in time for its debut at Geneva Motor Show in March.
Although the final shape has been disguised somewhat, both the front and back ends are still covered with heavy wraps. The computer-generated artist impression shows the potential of the new four-door – it is poised, but dynamic.
Two engines will be available initially, one in the standard version and one in the sportier variant. The standard model will have a 1.8-litre turbocharged TSI engine that can produce 160 hp. A 300 hp R36 model with VW’s 4-motion four-wheel drive technology will complete the initial lineup. Next Autumn, additional engines will be available.
This new Passat variant will be available in America, Europe, and China. However, the competition is fierce. The Audi A7 four-door coupe is currently in development and is expected to bridge A6 and A8 luxury sports coupes. A coupe version of the next-generation BMW 7-Series coupe is also being considered by the German company.
A Geneva debut is most likely. The testing program is likely conceive more thinly-disguised Passat Coupes for the spy photographers. So stay tuned to us for all the latest.
