Volvo Axes the Regular V90 Wagon in The USA, and Keeps V90 Cross Country

For the V90, which is available only to special-order customers, take one.

The Volvo V90 wagon is one of the most stunning modern wagons. It’s not available in the United States. It’s kinda. Geely, a Swedish brand that is owned by Geely, has decided to discontinue its regular midsize wagon. However it will continue selling the rugged Cross Country which features SUV-like design characteristics. According to Motor Trend, the discontinuation of the non-CC model will occur with the 2022 model year.

Since V90 sales haven’t been particularly high, it’s unlikely that many people will miss the V90. Volvo knew this from the start and decided to only sell the regular wagon through a special-order procedure. Since its launch four years ago dealers haven’t had any of these wagons in stock and customers had to place orders and wait patiently to receive their delivery. It’s a different story with the Cross Country as the body-cladding-equipped derivative is stocked on dealer lots.

The current-generation V90 was introduced in early 2017. Dean Shaw, Volvo Car USA vice president for communication, stated that the Cross Country outsells the regular model by a ratio “four, five and six to one”. The wagon’s price starts at $54,900, which is $3,100 less than the regular V90. This has an effect on its starting price.

The V60 wagon is still available in the USA. This makes it an attractive option for those who want a longer-roof Volvo that’s more affordable than the V60. It starts at $40,950. The S90 sedan is another vulnerable model that will be around in the US. There are other options than the SUV and crossover invasion.

Volvo’s head honcho Hakan Samsson said that some sedans and wagons are in dire straits. These products will remain a part the company’s portfolio but ” not as many.”
