The Volvo XC90’s first generation will remain in China, where it will be sold under the “XC Classic”.
The first generation Volvo XC90 is still available for purchase in China, where it will be marketed under the “XC Classic”.
The second-gen Volvo XC90 is now in focus. However, the Geely-owned marque will continue to produce the first generation for the Chinese market. Volvo will use the “XC Classic”, nameplate for the older model, which is set to go on sale on Monday.
The model will come with a 2.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine that produces 220 bhp (164kW), which would make it 11 horsepower (8 kW) faster than its predecessor. The power will be transmitted to both axles via a standard five speed manual transmission or an optional automatic transmission.
The production will be held at the new Volvo factory in Daqing, Heilongjiang Province. All the required tooling will be shipped from Sweden.
China will reportedly get a third variant of the SUV, the luxurious derivative based upon the new model. It will have a four-seat interior cabin and individual rear seats, rumours suggest.
