VW Atlas Cross Sport GT Concept Revealed with Low Ride and More Power

Sporty version of the family SUV

Both the Volkswagen Atlas, and Atlas Cross Sport crossovers are solid, spacious vehicles. However, neither one is particularly fun to drive. With the Atlas Cross Sport GT Concept, the company hopes to change the tune. This gives the stoic SUV an aggressive look.

The Atlas Cross Sport GT Concept Concept is the latest “enthusiast build” in the 2021 series. It follows the Arteon Big Sur, Taos Basecamp. This Atlas is based on the R-Line factory model. It has an upgraded ST suspension with lower springs to bring it closer to the ground, unique 22-inch ABT SportHR Aerowheel rims and Tarox eight-piston frontbrakes that give the Atlas more stopping power.

Exterior features a hand-painted Kingfisher Blue paintjob, which is available only from the factory for select European VW models. The stock chrome exterior trim is replaced by gloss black, and the vehicle features custom GT badges. Inside, the interior features a matching Eisvogelblau color, including the custom Recaro seats, shifter and seat belts. The design language of Recaro’s front console is also reflected in the unique rear center console.

The 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine powering the Atlas concept is the same as the Golf R’s, but with an IS38 turbo turbo and an additional radiator at the front. This Atlas boasts a powerful 300 horsepower (223 kilowatts) and is mated with a seven-speed DSG gearbox, as well as all-wheel drive.

Sean Maynard (VW enthusiast marketing specialist) said, “We wanted to really draw attention to all the great attributes of the Atlas Cross Sport. Particularly its strong exterior styling and evaluate its potential performance capabilities.”

Don’t be too optimistic, VW doesn’t plan to make the Cross Sport GT production. The Atlas Cross Sport is available for purchase starting at $30,855 in America.
