VW ID Electric Supercar rendering Would be Sweet If Made Real

We need the VW EV.

This rendering might be of interest to you if the Volkswagen ID.4 EV SUV doesn’t appeal to your taste. Gabriel Arruda, VW design intern, shared his vision on Instagram for the EV sportscar that VW should build. Automakers must move away from the revenue-generating SUVs that are so common with EVs and offer EVs to enthusiasts they love.

As it continues to transform itself into an electric car manufacturer, the new VW ID.4 represents one of the major steps. It is no secret that SUVs are a popular choice for car buyers today. Therefore, it makes sense for VW’s to target this lucrative market. Modern EVs have a modular skateboard design that makes it easy to create a new model simply by adding a different body to the drivetrain.

There are two powertrain options for the VW ID.4, one rear-wheel drive and one all-wheel drive. The rear-drive model has a single rear-mounted electric engine that produces 201 horsepower, while the dual motor all-wheel-drive model produces 301 horsepower due to the addition of a 100 horsepower electric motor at the front.

With the 4600 pound ID.4 rear wheel-drive, you can go from 0-60 mph in 7.6 seconds. The all-wheel drive model has yet to be tested. Imagine this powerful drivetrain being combined with a lighter and smaller sports car. VW can build an EV sports car using the VW ID.4 to reduce the development costs and give customers more options.

Automakers can now offer new models with the same hardware because of the unique packaging of electric drivetrains. Future EV sports cars should be able to offer car enthusiasts a vehicle that is worth their time.
