VW Polo GTI Takes Shape In Unofficial Renderings Ahead Of Debut

This summer, VW will unveil the hotter model.

Volkswagen unveiled the new Polo hatchback last week. The Polo hatchback received a major makeover in the middle of its cycle, with styling tweaks inside and outside. The car took cues from larger Golf models and other VW models to give it a more mature appearance. However, a GTI version is expected to arrive later in the summer. Motor.es has provided two renderings that attempt to show what it will look like.

In the renderings, the Polo GTI shows the compact hatch taking styling cues more from its larger sibling. The Polo has the same lower bumper design as the Golf GTI, with integrated LED light clusters into the honeycomb styling. It is located below the familiar VW front with the LED light bar, which extends between the Polo’s newly designed headlights. Red trim is also added to the Polo’s front like the Golf GTI. However, it’s located on the Polo’s lower grille.

The Polo GTI’s rear changes are more subtle, with it sporting dual-exhaust outlets instead of the fake quad exhaust design. The rendering replaces the Polo badge from under the VW logo with red GTI letters. For a cleaner look, the red bumper indicators have been replaced with black trim. Regular Polo received a new digital instrument cluster, climate controls and climate control from the facelifted Tiguan and Arteon . We expect to see these in the hotter Polo with some GTI-specific touches.

According to rumors, the Polo GTI will continue to use the turbocharged 2.0 liter engine. It is predicted to produce 207 horsepower (154kilowatts), as opposed to the 200hp 149kW produced by the outgoing model. This is quite a power boost over the standard Polo which can produce 110 hp (82 kW) from its turbocharged 2.0-liter engine. Even though summer won’t arrive in the USA, it can’t come soon genug.
