Volkswagen is a success story with its Basecamp concepts. These take regular VW models and add a variety of accessories. It did it with its 2019 Atlas to great popularity. Now it is doing it for the Taos. The Taos Basecamp Concept shows off a future accessory package. The upgrades make the crossover look more difficult than it is.
The Taos Basecamp Concept was created by the VW Design Team of Oxnard, California. It includes modifications that allow the crossover to go off-road. H&R Special Springs LP is used to raise the suspension. This allows for the Traverse MX wheels to be fitted with Falken Widepeak Trail A/T Trail tires. A Thule Canyon XT custom Thule Canyon XT roof rack with integrated off-road LED lighting by Baja Designs is mounted on top. The interior of the crossover is equipped with a Polytec Group cargo divider, which can store a variety of gear.
The Taos’ unique color scheme makes them stand out. It is Waimea Blue with orange accents all around. The silver rocker cladding band matte-black roof and hood add contrast to the bright colors. Additional exterior modifications include front and rear flares with aggressive splash guards and lower door skit plates as well as a custom front grille badge.
The Taos was revealed by VW for the US market in late 2020. It is expected to be available for the 2022 model-year. It replaces the Golf, which has been discontinued in the US. However, the top-performance Golf trims are still available. The Basecamp Concept accessories make it a simple design. A turbocharged 1.5-liter engine produces 158 horsepower (117 Kilowatts) as well as 184 pound-feet (249 Newton meters) of torque. You can choose between an eight-speed automaker and a seven speed dual-clutch, which are both available with the 4Motion all wheel-drive system.
