This is a new record in manual transmission.
Grannas Racing’s 2000 horsepower Toyota Supradrag vehicle made history with this quarter-mile run in 6.90 seconds. This record-setting run is the fastest quarter-mile ever completed by an HPattern manual transmission vehicle. The team achieved this feat thanks to their impressive build and skilled driving skills.
It’s easy to believe that driving in a straight line is easy with dual-clutch transmissions or 10-speed automatics in today’s world. While this may be true for automatics with consistent computer control, it is not the case on drag strips where a manual transmission car has to drive quickly. Missing a shift can have a significant impact on the time or cause a complete disaster for the car. Bugatti Chiron can cover a quarter mile in 9.9 seconds, which is 3 seconds faster than the stick-shift Supra.
There has been a lot of competition for the H-Pattern Stick Shift quarter mile world record. Cleetus MacFarland’s stripped down Corvette ran the quarter-mile in 7.824 seconds in 2018. In April 2019, Minion, a Mustang, set a new record with a time of 7.67 seconds. The record was held by a 1997 Camaro with a time 7.546.
Granna Racing’s accomplishments are impressive. The MK4 Supra, a flame-throwing car, can set a better time than the Supra in today’s video. It lost power at the end of the quarter-mile.
Grannas Racing’s MK4 Supra will be able to complete a full-powered run down the 1320. We are excited! It is likely to break the stick-shift record, pushing the limits of performance.
