This Ford GT is quicker than the stock model.
The 2005-2006 Ford GT is a powerful car that can be driven straight out of the factory. However, it also reacts well to modifications. This video shows a tuned example hitting the Johnny Bohmer Proving Grounds on Merritt Island in Florida for a speedy run down the 2.7-mile runway. It reaches a top speed at 214.097 mph (344.556 km/h).
The 2006 GT produces 700 horsepower (522 Kilowatts) as well as 650 pound-feet (881 Newton-meters). It is powered by a modified 5.4-liter supercharged engine and runs through a six speed manual. Because the car accelerates like an engine, these modifications produce impressive results. Comparatively, a stock GT GT hit 210.486 mph (338.74 km/h) 3.611 mph (5.8113 km/h) slower than this modified GT.
This GT isn’t the fastest. The M2K Motorsports team took its modified, 2,500-hp (1.864-kW), car to the Texas Mile at Victoria Regional Airport in March 2019. After dialing in their machine, the crew was able to push the vehicle up to a record 300.4 mph (483.44 km/h) during the standing mile.
Johnny Bohmer’s concrete runway measures 3 miles (4.828 km) in length, with extra asphalt runoff at each end. It is one of the most flat surfaces of its type, with an elevation variation of 0.25 inches (6.35 mils) across the entire length. Bohmer uses GoPro and Garman in-car monitoring equipment. The International Mile Racing Association also conducts speed and timing checks externally to ensure that the results are accurate.
