It won’t drip oil all over your floors, but don’t worry.
The Porsche 919 Hybrid’s three consecutive wins at Le Mans in 2015 and 2017 are a testament to its impact on motorsport. In an uprated Evo form, the race car even lapped faster than a Formula 1 car at Spa and made an unofficial lap record on the Nurburgring-Nordschleife. Now is your chance to get a piece in that rich history.
As the 919 Hybrid racecar is currently resting in the Porsche museum, Zuffenhausen, Stuttgart, nobody will sell it to you. You can still get the closest thing to the hybrid contender. The gallery below shows a 919 Hybrid Showcar. This is one of 13 examples made by Porsche for demonstration purposes. Porsche did not make a cheap copy of this showcar. Instead, they used the original CAD data for the LMP1 racecar to create the showcar.
You don’t have to worry about it dripping oil on your garage floor. There’s no drivetrain beneath the skin. This means that you can put it in your living space to match your Puma 911 Turbo shoes. It is lightweight because it is fiberglass and has a steel frame.
These replicas were made by Porsche for promotional purposes and displayed at various motorsport and automotive events. The engine-less prototypes were also used by some of Porsche’s sponsors at Le Mans, such as Schaeffler Technologies and DMG Mori.
This example is finished with a livery very similar to that of the 2015 24 Hours of Le Mans-winning car 919, which was driven by Earl Bamber and Nick Tandy. The auction in Miami, scheduled for 6-13 Oct this year, will see the car go under the hammer. At this time, it is not known how much the car will fetch at auction.
